Bill Jobe

Dr. William Jobe graduated with a bachelors degree in science from Colorado College in 1953 and with a medical degree from the University of Colorado in 1957. He then worked in the Research and Educational Hospital at the University of Illinois, including deployment for several months in the cardiac service of Dr. Charles Bubost in Paris, before completing his residency in radiology at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Jobe entered private practice with Doctors Freed, Gaylord, and Lanier, ultimately becoming chairman of the group which came to be known as Radiology Imaging Associates. The practice was noteworthy in part due to its rural and community medicine service throughout much of Colorado.

During his career, Dr. Jobe served as secretary/treasurer of the American College of Radiology as well as its president in 1982. He was active in the creation of the Colorado Medical Foundation and ultimately served as its president as well as president of the Arapahoe Medical Foundation and the Denver Medical Foundation for Health.

Dr. Jobe’s professional experience also includes service as an assistant professor at the University of Colorado Medical School and as the president of the medical staff at Swedish Hospital in Denver, as well as chairman of the Department of Radiology at Swedish and Porter Hospital.

Dr. Jobe created the Breast Center, now known as the Sally Jobe Breast Center, which was likely to have been the first breast center in the United States. Together with Dr. Steve Parker, he embarked upon a research series, ultimately creating a needle biopsy technique which became the standard diagnosis methodology used throughout the United States and much of the world.

Dr. Jobe was one of the original seven founders in 1982 of the Cordillera Foundation and serves on its board to this day. He retired from medical practice in 1996 and lives with his wife, Joan Duncan, between Denver, Colorado and Tubac, Arizona.
